# Commercial licensing

> How an organisation obtains written permission to use the Grantex server, portal and hosted services from Orchestrum Technologies LLP. The SDKs stay Apache-2.0.

**In effect from 21 October 2026.** Grantex has two licences, summarised on
the [Licence](/license.md) page:

* The SDKs and client packages in `packages/`, and the examples, are
open source under the Apache License 2.0 and free for any use, including
commercial use. They need no agreement.
* The Grantex server and developer portal, the protocol specification text,
the documentation and the website are licensed under the
  [Orchestrum Personal Use License 1.0](https://github.com/mishrasanjeev/grantex/blob/main/LICENSE),
  licensor Orchestrum Technologies LLP.

## Short notice

For the server, portal and hosted services, only an individual using them for
their own personal purposes is free. Every organisation needs prior written
permission from Orchestrum Technologies LLP in a signed agreement, whatever the
use and whether it is paid or free. Permission:
[sanjeev@orchestrum.in](mailto:sanjeev@orchestrum.in).

This applies to existing and new users alike. Releases published before
21 October 2026 remain available under the terms they were released with;
versions and updates of the platform published from that date are not, so an
organisation needs written permission to use them.

## What is free

* The SDKs and client packages, for any purpose.
* An individual's own personal use of the server and portal, such as learning,
personal study, experiments and hobby projects, when the individual is not
acting for, on behalf of or for the benefit of any organisation.
* Changing the platform code for that personal use, keeping the licence and
the copyright notice with every copy. Distributing it, changed or not, needs
  a written agreement.

## What needs written permission

Any use of the server, portal or hosted services by or for an organisation:
any company, partnership, LLP, firm, sole proprietorship carrying on a
business, charity, non-profit, school, university, research institution,
government body or other organisation. There is no exception for evaluation,
charities, education, research or government. This includes:

* Evaluation, testing, pilots and proofs of concept.
* Internal use, even if nothing is sold.
* Hosting, SaaS or a managed service built on the server, offered to others.
* Resale, bundling, sublicensing or redistribution of the server or portal,
  changed or not.
* Embedding the auth service, the portal or the specification text in another
  product, appliance or platform.
* Consulting, integration, implementation, training or support work that runs
or deploys the server, paid or unpaid.
* Commercial use of the hosted services (`grantex.dev`, `api.grantex.dev` and
related endpoints), whichever SDK you use to call them.

If you are unsure, treat the use as needing permission until Orchestrum
confirms otherwise in writing.

## How to obtain permission

Email [sanjeev@orchestrum.in](mailto:sanjeev@orchestrum.in) with your
organisation, the components and versions you want, how you will use them and
who the users are, the expected scale and deployment, and when you need to
start. Orchestrum replies with terms. Use may begin only after a written
agreement is signed by both parties; a request or a reply is not permission.

## Hosted services and brand

The hosted services have their own [terms](/compliance/terms-of-service.md).
"Grantex" and "AgenticOrg" and their logos are trademarks of Orchestrum
Technologies LLP; commercial use of the names, logos, hosted services or brand,
including with the Apache-licensed SDKs and earlier versions, needs prior
written approval
([TRADEMARKS.md](https://github.com/mishrasanjeev/grantex/blob/main/TRADEMARKS.md)).

Existing hosted customers keep their executed agreements, which control until
they are amended or replaced under their own notice and acceptance terms.

## Material under other licences

Third-party dependencies and the vendored third-party files listed in
[THIRD\_PARTY\_NOTICES.md](https://github.com/mishrasanjeev/grantex/blob/main/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md)
keep their own licences.
